VGSyncer

Another project currently in development.... MIDIoverUSB Controller for VG Devices based on RaspberryPi.

The main goal of this is "sync" patches on my Boss GP-10 and Roland GR-55 (where GR will be the master and on GP will be selected patch by map stored in "VGSyncer"). As I looked around I found many other "extensions" of this model - OSC: remote control via tablet, adding more footswitches to quick dial patches or adding more controls to those devices.... but, start from beginning....

Step 1.)

prototype - I just bundle RaspberryPi with LCD and 4 menu buttons - works fine ...

Step 2.)

Raspberry Pi preparation - a long story - currently I'm using "lightweight" version of Raspbian with uninstalled all X-environment, additional programs and with reduced writes to SD (by using temporary ram filesystem). Here are some useful resources https://www.a-netz.de/blog/2013/02/ramdisks-for-the-raspberry/ and http://www.richardsramblings.com/2013/02/minimalist-raspberry-pi-server-image/ or http://blog.samat.org/2015/02/05/slimming-an-existing-raspbian-install/

I'm using Ubuntu to work on this project for Windows users seems to be fine WinSCP (file transfer between PC and RPi) and PuTTy (terminal to connect to console). On RPi you can use Midnight Commander (mc) to work with files/folders and configurations

Step 3.)

Main part of this project ... currently (2015-11) in development ...

planned are two modes - live/song and JAM mode - both controlled by OSC via tablet (for live/song is possible to use GK pickup S1/S2 switches or control foot-switches)

HW is completed

So, this is first version of HW.... let's continue on SW development :-)

actually there are two version of HW - bellow is "VGSyncer LE" - added some footswitches, displays and control LEDs.

some small progress in HW making - trying to made it "reproduceable" :-)

grrr....next version will have footswitches and LEDs mounted on PCB (and 4&5pin Dupont connectors will be replaced by 2x5 ribbon cable connectors) ... :-)

last mechanical part(s): RPi holder (and USB power connector) + holders for MIDI and GK-Splitter boards

Yes!!!! after long time is hardware fineshed (both version). Some documentation will follow...

RPi with power switch module (on/shutdown init+driven off/force off button)

All mounted in case.....

And here is final assembly...
